Cleveland-based disc jockey Alan Freed began playing this music style popularising it with the term "Rock 'n' Roll" in the 50s. It derived most directly from rhythms and blues music, which in its itself developed from early blues, boogie-woogie, jazz, and swing music. Rock 'n' Roll in turn provided the main basis that since the mid-60s, has been generally known simply as Rock Music. After Bill Haley and His Comets hit 'Rock Around The Clock' an avalanche that changed the face of music forever came 'The King' Elvis Presley, and Rock 'n' Roll giants Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, Eddie Cochran, and The Everly Brothers. Rock 'n' Roll has never died and continues to be played all over the World to this very day!!! "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll"
