Perumal Murugan is a thinker and a dreamer. In solitude, he brings to life worlds that are connected to the real, and at the same time challenge it. His work spans nearly the entire breadth of tamil academia and creative writing. It has been an honour to work with him in creating some beautiful works of art for Karnatik music. We have consciously brought into the Karnatik repertoire themes, words and ideas that have largely remained outside the domain. Along with it comes a concerted effort to ground Karnatik music in today, not a selective past. Murugan has also reimagined aspects of nature that are hardly celebrated in Karnatik music.
