"Resurgence" is an album that is all about joy. Resurgence is an album that takes my Memphis roots in blues music and my love of Cuban rhythm and marries them in a celebration of joy that is bound to make you dance. It's a feel good album all about heart and soul, a celebration of love, and a tribute in joy to a dear friend of mine, the late Harold Mabern, a Memphis-born jazz pianist who always led with his heart in life and music. My mother, Gloria Coleman, is really my main inspiration for the blues elements of this project, and my trip to Cuba to learn to play Bata is my inspiration for the Latin flavored material on the album. My father, George Coleman Sr., who wrote an original piece with me for the album to commemorate Harold and plays on two track on the record along with my band. Our producer on the day will be the legendary drummer, and my own personal mentor, Michael Carvin . My goal for this album is to make you feel so good you can't help but celebrate.
