Welcome to the 2022 Lindsey Chapel Series. This year’s series, curated by the performers, pairs beloved music for unaccompanied strings by Bach with an arresting array of short pieces by living composers, including works of Adolphus Hailstork, Francois Rabbath, Kurt Rohde, Alec Roth, Augusta Read Thomas, and Errollyn Wallen. Some of the Bach pieces are played on instruments for which they were not originally written. Mark Berger (viola) plays the Cello Suite in C Major, BWV 1009 unchanged but for transposition at the octave, whereas the version for Nathan Varga’s contrabass (of the same piece) is transposed to the key of G Major to accommodate the instrument. As always, we are grateful to Emmanuel Church for sharing this space of remarkable architectural beauty and beguiling acoustics for the duration of the series, throughout Lent. -Michael Beattie, Artistic Administrator See the complete program for the Lindsey Chapel Series here: https://www.emmanuelmusic.org/perform...
