Unity Sessions is a platform for me and my friends to play our songs and cover versions of songs that we love. For years I have been doing solo shows were I mix up my original songs with my idiosyncratic arrangements of other artists’ songs. Unity Sessions is a way for me to document these arrangements. These are live performances that I record to the best of my ability. Shot in one take on one camera. They are flawed, but I hope they contain some beauty as well, and that they can bring a tiny shimmer of light and humanity into a sometimes seemingly automated and indifferent world. I believe in the power of unity and I believe in the unifying power of music. The most profound communal experiences I’ve had have been on stage playing for strangers, sometimes in very small venues. It appears to me that there are very strong forces at play trying to divide us and conquer the human spirit. Maybe what we need is more Joy and less Division.
