The Brewhouse Sessions are a selection of live studio performances that we record in our own studio - 'The Brewhouse' 'Brewhouse Sessions' videos, will feature live performances from our studio. We're trying to capture a 'stripped-down, back to basics' feel to the videos, and for good reason... well, two actually. The first is to give us a chance to record some of the tunes that we've been playing live for years but for one reason or another have never got around to recording. Sometimes a tune just doesn't fit the mood of the CD we're working on, however much we enjoy playing it, and even some of our favourites have slipped the net. We also get asked 'why haven't you made a video of so-and-so tune', and these videos will help to rectify that. The second reason is to satisfy a bit of a musical craving. When Whalebone recorded the first couple of albums, we did everything more or less live. 'There to Here' featured two guitarists playing together in front of two mics, and our second CD 'Rootsy...' was recorded live in front of a rowdy, (and plainly drunken) audience, but as our musical arrangements became more complex we made full use of studio technology, as you can hear on tracks such as Dream On (around 12 Sarahs in the string section) and John Barleycorn (Steve and Char playing two guitars, bass, banjo, cajon and floorboards - don't ask...) But even as we were gleefully adding the third mandolin line to some track or other, we were wistfully thinking back to the old days of 'three 'bones, three microphones'. Now, with the Brewhouse Sessions, we're giving ourselves the chance to record live again.
