Rhymez is a rapper, singer, and songwriter of Cape Verdean origin, born on November 11, 1994. Although originally from Praia, Cape Verde, he is based in the United States — as of recent living in Brockton, MA. Much of his work engages with themes relevant to his experience and identity as a Cape Verdean-American, immigrant heritage, and the struggles of diaspora life. Despite being based in the U.S., his Cape Verdean roots are important to his identity — and he seems to aim to “be the voice” for his community, representing diaspora youth with music. 🎵 Career & Notable Work • He belongs to or is affiliated with a group/collective called SamBriu Music Group (SBMG). • Some of his tracks include “Letter To AR” (with a collaborator known as Young G SamBriu), released around September 2020. • He also featured on collaborative songs such as “Suspeito e Artista” alongside other artists (e.g. Johnny Monteiro and Scarp). That track deals with themes about the struggles, judgments, and social perception faced by artists of humble/peripheral origins. 🧑🤝🧑 Purpose, Motivation & Voice • Rhymez has spoken about using music as an outlet during hard times (describing how he turned to music when going through depression and feeling isolated). • He expresses a desire to be a voice for marginalized communities — people from humble backgrounds, immigrants or children of immigrants, or people whose stories don’t often get represented in mainstream media.
