It was 1990, and the cyberpunk movement, together with techno music, were thriving. We loved watching Blade Runner, Space Odyssey, Brazil, Akira, and Tetsuo movies. We loved reading books by William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, and J.G. Ballard. We adored Japanese culture and connecting to the Internet with old, slow modems. We were the little kids who listened to new wave music but wanted something new and wanted to experiment with music and video. So, the X4U project was born as a solo endeavour in the remote northeast of Italy, not far from the border of what is now Slovenia. Slovenia was the country of Borghesia and Laibach; if they could do it, so could we. X4U was not only about music but also included DJing, computer graphics, and video. It ran from 1991 to 1995. In 1995, it came to a halt; it was too much, and I pulled the plug and sold everything. Thirty years later, it's time to honour an underground project that made some noise in parts of Italy in the early 90s, but it's not over. It's 2025 and X4U is back, watch this space. Thank you for listening to my music.
