Artist/Performer/Songwriter TJ Hooker Taylor was born in Kansas City, Missouri and came out of the womb with music already in his veins. His mother, Mary Ann Hooker, and father, Legendary Blues/Soul recording artist Johnnie Taylor, both gave TJ his church singing roots. At age ten TJ, along with his family formed The Young Golden Voices. Then at age 16 he formed an R&B band (The Grand Jury Band) who became the #1 funk band in the city, won awards and opened for The Bar-Kays, Cameo, Slave to name a few. By the time TJ turns 21, his young voice begins to change. "I could hear that (Taylor Sound) starting to come through. I'd never tried to sound like my dad, I didn't think about The Blues. But on his 25th TJ was given an opportunity to open up for his legendary father. Says TJ, "That's when The Blues hit me". Unapologetically proud of his lineage, TJ Hooker-Taylor has released CDs independently ("The Total Package", "Your Babies Need A Daddy" & "Taylorized") with that Johnnie Taylor sound, albeit with mostly new, original songs. This new release "Taylorized The 45" consists of two songs, an A side "Every Night Is Friday Night" and B side "Good Good Man". Reconnecting with his Grand Jury bandmate Tony "prof.t" Tolbert (Lo-Key?) who brought on Alexander Richbourg (Flyte Tyme Productions) to assist in writing and producing the project, TJ hopes this "newer" Southern Soul sound from the project will help further carry the torch he's been given.
