From a Triple J Unearthed High win in 2016 and winning the Vanda and Young Global Songwriting Prize the same year, to touring arenas with the likes of Maisie Peters, Mumford & Sons and Gang of Youths; Gretta Ray has had an undeniably meteoric rise to the top. Following the success of her debut album ‘Begin To Look Around’ in 2021, and the incredible response to her viral cover of ‘Vienna’ by Billy Joel in 2022, Gretta’s sophomore release ‘Positive Spin’ in 2023 cemented her as one of Australia’s strongest songwriters, and saw Gretta nominated for Album Of The Year at the 2023 triple j J Awards, as well as being shortlisted for the 2023 Australian Music Prize. Gretta has built herself an impressively loyal and sizable fan base that have dedicated themselves to the world she has created. Her music is both an exercise in self exploration, and a familiar, sisterly conversation with those who take part in her journey so enthusiastically. Now, as she readies a brand new album for release in the near future, Gretta is getting ready to continue that conversation in new ways that are deeper, darker, bolder, but no less compelling than before.
