Nathan grew up in Northern Virginia, a diverse city that shaped the music he listened to. As a 2.5 generation Korean American, he was listening to the latest American pop/hiphop hits of the 2010s inspired by artists like Kanye, Eminem, Sean Kingston, Bruno Mars, J. Cole, and Jason Derulo. He’d simultaneously include some Korean RnB/hiphop in his playlists with artists like Dominic Duo, Epik High, Primary, AOMG, and Big Bang. Other inspired artists include AMP, Lyriks, MC Jin, Gowe, and YOX. Tension - is how he’d describe his relationship with music growing up, filled with weekly piano and violin lessons (lol…) but loving to drum and perform rap covers in his church youth group. A creativity etched inside him for as long as he could remember; he’s now convinced it’s part of how God designed him as he feel the most fulfilled, joyful, and challenged when he gets on stage with a mic in his hand. In March of 2021 there was a span of 2 weeks that culminated into a deep knowing. A knowing that God had given him permission to pursue this burning in His heart called “music”. Ever since, it’s been a journey of letting the Lord bring him into deep seasons of stripping away self, and replacing them with His thoughts, visions, and dreams of what stewarding this gift looks like. It's still a mystery as to what this “music” thing will ultimately lead. But until God doesn’t resurrect what’s constantly laid at the altar, NAT.O will continue to make music that blesses the Lord and His people.
