Born in Chicago and raised in Arizona, Stefan Pruett always had music in his heart. Born with a serious congenital heart condition and having several experimental heart surgeries as a child and teenager, Stefan turned to music as a source of comfort. In 2003, he formed the group Peachcake with childhood friend, John O’Keefe. They originally did not plan to last longer than three shows, including a dismal first show at a night club where the band was gated off from the audience. Through its various evolutions, Peachcake had a unique and progressive electronic sound that would attract thousands of fans worldwide. Stefan’s songwriting frequently focused on relevant social issues and causes that he was passionate about. Friends and fans would often refer to the exuberant joy and energy he would often put into his performances, and the group was often praised for having the best, most exciting live performances. Later joined by Mike McHale and other various musicians, Peachcake would continue to tour both nationally and internationally. Stefan continued to work diligently with his Peachcake bandmates throughout the 2000’s & early 2010’s. Writing and recording several EPs and full-length albums, including 2008’s WHAT YEAR WILL YOU HAVE THE WORLD?.., and 2012’s UNBELIEVABLE SOULS. Peachcake and Pruett’s Arizona roots had left a significant footprint on the Phoenix music scene. So much so that after his death in 2020, he was touted as one of Phoenix’s biggest musical influences.
