AQVOL (real name, Justin Marshall) is a singer, songwriter and producer hailing from Broward County, Florida. AQVOL fuses candid hip-hop, meditative R&B and timeless indie rock influences to create thoughtful, introspective narratives with uncanny, melodic infectiousness. AQVOL's adolescence of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rush and Hank Williams Jr. helped him escape his turbulent middle school years, while a new era of hip-hop inspired AQVOL to create his own art as a high school freshman. After saving money to purchase a retail version of digital audio workstation Ableton, AQVOL began his Malcolm Gladwell's “10,000 Hours” using only a Lex Luger drum kit and YouTube tutorials to teach himself how to play the guitar and keys. First gravitating to the innovative Swedish artist Yung Lean and his music group, Sad Boys, then inspired by a shift in hip-hop’s vocal musicality occurring on Soundcloud and singers ranging from OVO’s PARTYNEXTDOOR to the late soul legend Aretha Franklin, AQVOL began developing his trademark sultry, pensive ballads that ache with substance indulgence and evocative, youthful clarity. Currently, the passionate 21-year-old has been recording between Broward County, New York City and Portland to complete his official debut EP releases and eventual album, slated for a 2020 release date.
