Violent Ground is Allan and Christian Nabinacaboo, brothers from the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach in Northeastern Quebec. They are inspired by artists like Linkin Park, Tech N9ne, and Indigenous music played throughout Canada. With high-energy beats and melodies, the duo aims to move listeners with their dynamic range of musical expressions. “Our name is inspired by the history of the land we live on and the issues Indigenous people face: drug addiction, alcoholism, mental health issues, racism, abuse, and violence,” explains Chris. In late 2023, the brothers unveiled their new rap album Disarranged, tinged with trap and R&B rhythms. Realized with the collaboration of Melody McArthur, Anu Budz, Robbie G., Cjay Griz, Deathklown, Money -1, Aspects, Mattmac and Q-052, the album explores themes of identity, indigenous realities, issues of addiction in communities and colonial trauma. Disarranged represents the duo's journey of self-discovery as artists and individuals, characterized by conscious and confronting lyrics, with each track representing a different stage in the process of introspection.
