By fusing elements of punk with Rumba, Son, Polka, Flamenco, Salsa, Tango and more, The Rumba Madre creates a unique transnational experience. With wide musical backgrounds and equally satirical and committed multilingual lyrics, the band breaks through the traditional standards of Latin music to prove that all boundaries can be challenged. After releasing their debut album, Prisiones y Fugas, in early 2020 under the guidance of Iván Gutiérrez Carrasquillo (Calle 13, Cultura Profética, SOJA, etc.), the band now returns with a full new album, Apropiaciones Culturales V.2. This new album was produced by Juan de Dios Martín Antón (Gloria Trevi, Alejandra Guzmán, Camarón, etc.) and includes the participation of top figures such as Kalani Trinidad (Cultura Profética), “Lilaina” Galician ensemble (Vetusta Morla, C Tangana, etc.), Ezequiel Navas (Raphael, Amaral, La Orquesta Mondragón, etc.), or Pepe Ortega (Juanes, Alejandro Sanz, etc.). One of the most interesting characteristics of The Rumba Madre is their satirical humor to tackle important social issues such as immigration rights, border politics, the experience of the Latin diaspora, class struggle, exploitation of workers, economic injustice, queer representation and inclusion through humor and authenticity, critiquing U.S. cultural dominance or the tokenization of Latin cultur, and others.
