Marlene Bakker has brought the language of Groningen - ’t Grunnegs, or Gronings - to two acclaimed albums: RAIF (2018) and Oaventuren (2023). Evoking the landscapes of her home province, the albums showcase her soulful, richly layered voice. Even those who do not understand the language are moved by the cinematic atmosphere of her music, steeped in longing, melancholy and romance. In early 2027 she will begin a new tour inspired by northern folktales and a nineteenth-century seer titled MARLENE // MELDINE. She will be performing together with her band and the Noordpool Orkest. "Never before was the Groninger dialect connected to cinematic arrangements that sound so contemporary, in which the songs of a singer/songwriter are carefully draped in dreamy and broad sounds. This is a unique listening experience, a serene and melancholic spell which is lovingly crafted and captured into sound. Somehow, it’s just incredibly romantic."
