Pareidolon was formed in September of 2015 in the Canadian mountain town of Nelson, British Columbia. The band was made up entirely of Selkirk College music school graduates Brittany Keller (Zayda), Jonathan Kwak, Ashley Pearce, Branden Green, Anna Katarina, Aybars Savat, and put together by bassist/composer Lachlan Tocher solely to perform his graduation recital. After months of rehearsals and a successful performance, they decided to make quick use of the school's recording studio to create an album. Recorded at no cost with volunteer musicians/artists/engineers in the space of 3 days, the resulting album "Aporía" was released in January of 2017 - free to download from the band's bandcamp page. Spirited but unfocused and naive, Aporía mixed classic progressive rock with modern gloomy acts like Porcupine Tree and Anathema while other tracks dichotically displayed pop rock and metal influences. Production duties were handled by Tocher, this album being his first large project to complete. The album's artwork was created by Turkish designer Efecan Soysal as a favour to drummer Savat. The band played one singular show in May 2017 to support the album, before entering hiatus and relocating to Vancouver, British Columbia. Almost immediately after this, Tocher began writing for the followup album, and are now halfway through recording sessions. Pareidolon is currently operating as 5-piece outfit consisting of Keller, Pearce, Katarina, Tocher and Savat.
