José Hidalgo discovered his passion for music as a child in Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, where he began playing the accordion. His talent led him to the prestigious National School of Art of Cubanacán (ENA) in Havana. However, his life took a dramatic turn when an attempt by his father to help him escape Cuba failed. José was sent to a juvenile reeducation center, while his father was sentenced to five years in prison. After serving his time, José reconnected with music, joining a small band. During his military service, José taught himself to play the alto saxophone in the army band. Later, he studied tenor saxophone with Maestro César Alberti and learned orchestration from Maestro Jesús Lacerda, refining his craft further. In 1980, José emigrated to the United States, performing with various bands and developing his skills as a musician. By the late 1990s, he shifted to arranging and studio work, leaving behind secular venues. In 2005, José moved to Southern California, where he experienced a life-changing encounter with Christ in 2009. Since then, his music has been dedicated to sharing his faith, blending his Cuban roots and profound devotion to inspire others.
