Joané Gous

I am a poet and songwriter from Namibia. My work spans over multiple genres, each poem turned into a song, drawing on a life experience, a thought, a dream. In my music I work from the poem first and the poem then determines what genre the song will become. Alongside poetry and songwriting I am also a photographer, have a Master's Degree in English Literature and I am also a crochet artist. I am inspired by Namibian landscapes and culture, but also deeply by humanity and faith and these inspirations become the themes in my work. Even before I could write I would carry notebooks with me and simply scribble in them, pretending that I was a writer. Similarly, as a child I was fascinated with the guitar and keyboard and would spend hours just making sounds on them. As a teenager I bought my first harmonica. Writing and music has always been a central part of my life. Life is art.
