Rob Meany is a singer-songwriter best known as the leader of the band Terramara. Over the last twenty-plus years, Rob and Terramara have carved out a niche somewhere between Steely Dan and Ben Folds: keyboard-heavy pop songs with fresh twists into the world of jazz and progressive rock. Growing up near Duluth, Minnesota, Rob was drawn to a wide range of music at an early age. He took classical piano lessons and fell in love with the music of Chopin, but also soaked up a lot of jazz and pop music, primarily the early Chicago records, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, and the entire Beatles catalog. He continued to pursue his passion for music in college, playing in band, jazz band and singing in choir. But it wasn’t until a few years after college that Rob would find his muse as a songwriter and singer. After short stints as a sideman in various groups, he formed Terramara as vehicle for his new piano-driven songs. Over the course of the next 10 years, his band would release three full-length albums, garnering a loyal following among jazz-rock lovers worldwide. Following the release of the third album, Rob took a hiatus from Terramara to produce his first solo effort, Ferris Wheels Unbound (2016). The album departs from the rock quartet-oriented production of the band, presenting a finely orchestrated collection of songs, enhanced by string quartet and jazz trio. After a pandemic-induced break, Rob and Terramara are now moving forward with regular releases of new music.
