Head south from Canary Wharf to the furthest tip of the Isle Of Dogs and you’ll find a scenic stretch of parkland known as Island Gardens, offering views across the Thames to Greenwich. In his mid to late-teens, Kyle Miller would often escape there late at night, spending hours gazing over at The Naval College and The Cutty Sark, lost in his thoughts. “There's something really poignant about being sat there when there’s a full moon,” the South East London singer-songwriter better known as Aeris Roves explains today. He smiles, “The moon is so much more vivid from that side of the river, without any high rises in the way.” It was these hours of reflection that inspired Miller’s 2016 debut-single ‘Banks’, and by extension Moon By Island Gardens, his acclaimed 2018 LP that was hailed by Vogue as “effortlessly cool,” and by Notion as “UK R&B at its finest.” And as the 24-year-old prepares to embark on the next phase of his journey, these formative experiences remain as influential as ever, ingrained in tender songwriting that only underscores his status as a deep thinker.
