Since her debut in 2011, her public image has been closely associated with Japan's kawaii and decora culture, centered on the Harajuku youth fashion scene from which she emerged. Her music has been written and produced by musician Yasutaka Nakata throughout her career. Her 2011 debut single "Pon Pon Pon" reached the top ten of Japan's Oricon Singles Chart and was followed by the EP Moshi Moshi Harajuku. Her debut studio album Pamyu Pamyu Revolution followed, featuring the successful singles "Tsukematsukeru" and "Candy Candy".
