Neuro, aka Neuro NYC, began as a Manhattan Project, in the business district and East Village. Started by vocalist/songwriter Jesse Short, born in Roswell, N.M., the band performed in NYC clubs, featuring Keith Hafer (co-songwriter) on keys, and a changing line-up on guitar/drums/bass. Jesse was also the vocalist for various NYC cover bands, most notoriously as "Wiggy Moondust" for Glamasaurus Rex ("G.Rex"), a glam-rock tribute band with plenty of Bowie in their repertoire. On earth, Neuro released a 12-song concept album, "Mind Altar" in late 2013. Justin Kreitzer's AMG review notes that "(Neuro) create a unique blend of cosmic goth-rock and Pink Floyd-esque psych-rock freakouts with glammy Bowie-like theatrics along with thought-provoking and mind-altering lyrical themes for a genre-defiant sound that is truly all their own...". Currently, in 2023, Jesse Short resides in both Miami and NYC, working with Keith Hafer and new Neuro members to release the follow-up album to "Mind Altar", titled "Sensory Overlord". Although the album will be more electronic than "Mind Altar", it carries forward the theme of its predecessor (a "cathartic meditation on toxic, mind-numbing patriarchal power") to the future. "Neuro EDM", slotted to be the first single, is a dance song fantasy about exiting the Milky Way into a Utopian Andromeda, in age of Aquarius mode. Other songs, like "DNAI", are less optimistic, a new take on Bowie's "Savior Machine". The production? Overloaded.
