Panos Skouteris, a Greek clarinettist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, was born in Athens and has always been drawn to the soul of traditional music. As a passionate traveller and researcher, Panos began his journey as an ethnomusicologist, capturing the essence of Greece through field recordings and projects that delved into the country’s rich musical heritage. Now based in the Netherlands, he carries his folk instruments, memories, and fresh collaborations into new musical landscapes. His first personal duet album, Azizie, created alongside the gifted Arash Badie on the Iranian tar, is a heartfelt exploration of old music performed live. The album emerged from a desire to breathe life into a carefully selected repertoire, rediscovering the meaning behind each phrase in the moment of performance. With every uncut detail—the breaths, plucks, and wooden vibrations—Azizie celebrates the raw, unpolished beauty of live music. This recording reflects not only a shared dedication to refining their craft but also the bond of friendship forged through music and migration. It’s a testament to their roots, their journey, and their search for Azizie—a timeless reminder that our origins illuminate the path ahead. "Our roots shape the path. The path that will guide us further.”
